What is ROHS? In February, 2003, the European Union issued the RoHS (Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment). The directive prohibits the use of lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), hexavalent chromium (Cr6), polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) or polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) in most electronics sold in Europe after July 1, 2006. Other countries and U.S. states are following the EU legislation including: China, Japan, California and Maine.
